Why this is our Signature Tour
If we had one full day ashore in eastern Sicily, this is how we would spend it: Mount Etna for scale and drama, followed by Taormina for views, atmosphere and independent time.
It combines Sicily’s strongest natural landmark with its most celebrated hilltop town, in a format designed around cruise timings rather than a generic sightseeing day.

- Mount Etna — Silvestri crater area. Drive toward Etna with a stop in the Silvestri crater area (supplier notes roughly 6,500 ft / about 40 minutes from the base). Weather and visibility can change quickly; higher access is not implied.
- Taormina free time. Typical supplier window around 12:15–15:15 for independent exploration — Corso Umberto, viewpoints and optional Greek Theatre visit (admissions not assumed included).
- Return to ship. Typical supplier return around 16:30. Build your own all-aboard buffer and confirm timings for your call.
Cruise suitability
Best suited to a full Messina port day. The published eight-hour pattern uses most of a standard call and requires careful return planning.
Mount Etna — what to expect
The supplier itinerary focuses on the Silvestri crater area, described as about 6,500 feet above sea level with roughly a 40-minute drive from the base. Weather and visibility are not guaranteed.
